During the winter months we are going to look back at the performances of Europeans, who played in the United States during the 2009 season.
Gregory Halman
Birth date: 08/26/1987 in Haarlem, Netherlands
Throws/Bats: Right/Right
Organization: Seattle Mariners
Position: Outfield
2009 Season: Gregory Halman’s prospect stock lost a little bit value in his fifth professional season. He batted a mere .210 (OBP .278/SLG .420) with 25 homeruns, 64 runs scored, 72 RBI and just nine stolen bases in 121 games for the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx of the Southern League. He struck out a career-high 183 times in 457 at-bats. He also spent a few days in the Arizona Summer League (2-11, 8 SO, 2 BB). During the 2009 World Baseball Classic Haman lost his spot in the starting lineup for the Netherlands and had just one hit in eleven at-bats, while striking out nine times. On the positive side, the 22-year-old is still on the 40-man roster of the Seattle Mariners and gets a chance to show off his skills in Major League spring training next March.
