Prospects in 2009 – Eric Gonzalez – Lake Elsinore Storm

During the winter months we are going to look back at the performances of Europeans, who played in the United States during the 2009 season.

Birth date: 09/05/1986 in San Juan de la Rambla, Canary Islands
Throws/Bats: Right/Right
Organization: San Diego Padres
Position: Pitcher

2009 Season: Eric Gonzalez started the year with Fort Wayne in the Midwest League and had a 2-1 record with an ERA of 4.19 in 27 games (one start), striking out 38 batters (seven walks) in 38 2/3 innings. In mid-June he was promoted to Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League, where he again had a 2-1 record with an ERA of 4.47 in 24 games. He struck out 38 batters (14 walks) in 46 1/3 innings. Gonzalez pitched for Spain during the IBAF Baseball World Cup. In three starts he had a 2-0 record (wins against South Africa and Venezuela) with an ERA of 2.20 and 15 strikeouts (two walks) in 16 1/3 innings.
