2009 Season: Before starting into his second professional year after 2007 (missed 2008 due to an injury) Tom Stuifbergen pitched four innings in his only start for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic, allowing five hits and two walks, striking out three. He then began the season with Elizabethton Twins in the Appalachian League, where he had a 5-2 record with an ERA of 3.28 in 13 starts, striking out 69 batters in 79 2/3 innings, walking only six. He finished his pro season with Fort Myers Miracle in the Florida State League, issuing five hits, four runs (3 ER) and a walk in 2 2/3 innings of his lone start. In the IBAF Baseball World Cup Stuifbergen led the Dutch team with a 1-0 record and an ERA of 1.10 in three starts, striking out ten in 16 1/3 innings (three walks).
