2011 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Untouchables Paderborn

We continue our review series of Europe’s baseball leagues after the Netherlands and Italy with the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Untouchables Paderborn

2011 Record: 25-3
2011 Ranking: 1st place in northern division after regular season. The Untouchables Paderborn had their most successful year in the Baseball-Bundesliga since winning the championship in 2005. After clinching first place in the north in the regular season, they eliminated the Haar Disciples and Bonn Capitals en route to the championship series. Against the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg, Paderborn won the first two games of the best-of-five series on the road, but blew the lead to lose 2-3.

Runs Allowed: 71 (1st)

Best Batter: Matt Martin. The 24-year-old American outfielder batted .409/.504/.613 with 12 extra base hits, 34 runs and 22 RBI in 26 games this year.

Best Pitcher: Daniel Hinz. Splitting time between starting and relieving, he went 6-0 with two saves and an ERA of 1.81 in 11 appearances on the mound (six starts). He owned a stellar 49/7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 49 2/3 innings.
