2011 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Dortmund Wanderers

We continue our review series of Europe’s baseball leagues after the Netherlands and Italy with the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Dortmund Wanderers

2011 Record: 14-14
2011 Ranking: 4th in northern division. The Dortmund Wanderers passed the HSV Stealers in the final weeks of the regular season and reached the playoffs. In the quarterfinals they were swept by the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in three games.
Runs Scored: 187 (tied for 4th)
Runs Allowed: 152 (4th)

Best Batter: Elliot Biddle. In his first season in Germany Elliot Biddle went .440/.484/.776 with seven homeruns, a triple, 16 doubles, 30 runs and 27 RBI in 28 games.

Best Pitcher: Matt Kemp. The player-coach went 9-4 with an ERA of 1.28 in 14 games (12 starts) this year. He struck out 111 batters in 98 2/3 innings, walking 42.
