2011 Season: The 23-year-old Italian infielder Alex Liddi is the poster boy for development in European Baseball right now. After six seasons in the minors he reached the big goal, getting the call-up to the Seattle Mariners following the end of the Pacific Coast League season with the Tacoma Rainiers. He got his first cup of coffee Major League Baseball, batting .225/.295/.525 in 15 games (13 starts). He hit three homeruns, scored seven runs and drove in six in his first 44 big league at bats. With Tacoma he had hit .259/.332/.488 with an organization best 30 homeruns, 121 runs scored and 104 RBI in a career-high 138 games. After these 153 games he still received additional playing time in the Venezuelan and Dominican Winter Leagues. However his bat went cold and he was sent home twice.
