2011 in Review – Spanish Division de Honor – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz

We’ve led off our statistical reviews of the 2011 season in Europe’s baseball leagues with the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. In the clean-up spot the Spanish Division de Honor.

2011 Ranking: 3rd place in Division de Honor. For a second year in a row the Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz finished in third place after dominating the league in previous seasons. They ended up eight games behind the dominating champion FC Barcelona.

Best Batter: Richard Montiel. The “veteran” among a young squad batted .389/.480/.690 with eight homeruns, 14 doubles, 32 runs and 34 RBI in 32 games.

Best Pitcher: Eric Gonzalez. Returning home after his adventure within the San Diego Padres organization, he went 6-2 with an ERA of 1.72 in nine starts. He struck out 60 batters in 68 innings, walking 19.
