2011 in Review – Spanish Division de Honor – Astros Valencia

We’ve led off our statistical reviews of the 2011 season in Europe’s baseball leagues with the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. In the clean-up spot the Spanish Division de Honor.

Astros Valencia

2011 Record: 24-12
2011 Ranking: 5th place in the Spanish Division de Honor. The Astros Valencia continued their march up in the standings, finishing with the same 24-12 record as record title holder CB Viladecans in fourth place. The Astros were in contention for the championship in the first half of the season. But a streak of just three wins in ten games in May and June ended their hopes.
Runs Scored: 223 (3rd)
Runs Allowed: 116 (4th)

Best Batter: Pedro Mendez. He batted .367/.463/.523 with 14 extra base hits, 25 runs and 27 RBI in 30 games.

Most Runs Scored: Kevin Malone 32
Most Stolen Bases: Aaron Hornostaj 14

Best Pitcher: Trevor Caughey. The former minor leaguer went 11-3 with a stellar 0.83 ERA in 15 games (13 starts). He struck out 125 batters in 108 1/3 innings, while walking just seven.
Best ERA Starting Pitcher: Trevor Caughey 0.83
Best ERA Reliever: Pedro Luis Peraza 3.25
Most Strikeouts: Trevor Caughey 125
Most Walks: Pedro Pablo Belmonte 15
Most Innings Pitched: Pedro Pablo Belmonte 117.0
