2009 in Review – Italian Baseball League – T&A San Marino

During the next couple of weeks, maybe months, we are going to look back at the 2009 season. We started with the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Next up: the Italian Baseball League.

T&A San Marino

2009 Record: 26-16
2009 Ranking: 3rd Place in Italian Baseball League after regular season. During the playoffs they won a league-best six out of nine games, qualifying for the Italian Championship Series, where they lost in five games against FORTITUDO BOLOGNA. In the Coppa Italia Tournament they won the title with a two-game sweep in the finals. In the European Cup in Matino, Italy T&A SAN MARINO finished tied for third place and missed out on the European Champions Cup Final Four in Barcelona, Spain.

Best Batter: Carlos Duran. He batted .330 (OBP .370/SLG .530) with 21 extra base hits, 36 runs scored and 22 RBI in 42 games. He was tied for the league lead with 98 total bases.
Best OPS: Carlos Duran .900
Most Home Runs: Carlos Duran 6
Most RBI: Max De Biase 29
Most Runs Scored: Carlos Duran 36
Most Stolen Bases: Carlos Duran 13 (4th in IBL)

Best Pitcher: Tiago da Silva. He went 9-1 with an ERA of 1.10 in 14 games (13 starts) striking out 107 batters in 90 1/3 innings, while walking just 13. It was a close call with Luis Ramirez (2-1, ERA 1.56, 6 saves), who struck out 60 batters in 34 2/3 innings of relief (10 walks).
Best ERA: Mauro Schiavoni 1.00 (minimum 15 IP)
Most Strikeouts: Tiago da Silva 107 (2nd in IBL)
Most Walks: Luca Martignoni 39
Most Innings Pitched: Horacio Estrada 91.2
