2009 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Danesi Nettuno

During the next couple of weeks, maybe months, we are going to look back at the 2009 season. We started with the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Next up: the Italian Baseball League.

Danesi Nettuno

2009 Record: 23-19
2009 Final Ranking: 5th Place in Italian Baseball League. NETTUNO missed the playoffs by a single game due to losing all three games of a series against T&A SAN MARINO in the next to last week of the regular season. In the Coppa Italia tournament DANESI advanced into the second round after winning four of six games in phase number one. They were eliminated there by TELEMARKET RIMINI in two games. In the European Cup they reached the Final Four in Barcelona, Spain and defended their title thanks to a 1-0 shutout over FORTITUDO BOLOGNA in the final.

Runs Allowed: 174

Best Batter: Juan Camilo. He batted a fifth-best .338 (OBP .445/SLG .575) with 21 extra base hits, 41 runs scored and 21 RBI in 42 games.

Most Home Runs: Juan Camilo 7 (2nd in IBL)
Most RBI: Giuseppe Mazzanti 33
Most Runs Scored: Juan Camilo 41 (2nd in IBL)
Most Stolen Bases: Manny Alexander 24 (led IBL)
Most Doubles: Juan Camilo 15 (led IBL)

Best Pitcher: Remigio Leal. The Spanish national teamer had a 3-2 record with an ERA of 2.12 in 15 games (one start). He struck out 47 batters in 46 2/3 innings, walking 15.
Best ERA: Remigio Leal 2.12
Most Strikeouts: Jeff Farnsworth 106 (3rd in IBL)
Most Walks: Joel Hernandez, Giovanni Carrara 29
Most Innings Pitched: Jeff Farnsworth 87.0
