2009 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Telemarket Rimini

During the next couple of weeks, maybe months, we are going to look back at the 2009 season. We started with the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Next up: the Italian Baseball League.

Telemarket Rimini

2009 Record: 30-12
2009 Ranking: Tied for 1st Place in Italian Baseball League after regular season ended. They were eliminated during the semi-final round robin after five wins in nine games. The PIRATES were tied for second place with FORTITUDO BOLOGNA, but were ranked third due to the tiebreaker. In the Coppa Italia tournament they finished in second place behind T&A SAN MARINO, losing the finals in two games. They are still qualified for the 2010 European Cup.

Runs Allowed: 135 (led Italian Baseball League)

Best Batter: Mario Chiarini. He batted .313 (OBP .431/SLG .513) with 18 extra base hits, 37 runs scored and 40 RBI in 42 games.

Most Home Runs: Eddie Rios, Ivanon Coffie 10 (tied for lead in IBL)

Best Pitcher: Rafael Garcia. He had a 10-1 record with a second-best ERA of 1.16 in 14 starts this year. He struck out 96 batters in 93 innings, walking 24.

Most Strikeouts: Rafael Garcia 96 (4th in IBL)
Most Walks: Chris Di Roma 35
