2009 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Fortitudo Bologna

During the next couple of weeks, maybe months, we are going to look back at the 2009 season. We started with the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Next up: the Italian Baseball League.

Fortitudo Bologna

2009 Record: 30-12
2009 Ranking: Tied for first place after the regular season in the Italian Baseball League. After finishing second in the playoffs, FORTITUDO BOLOGNA defeated T&A SAN MARINO in five games during the Italian Championship Series and celebrated their first title since 2005. BOLOGNA finished runner up in the European Champions Cup, losing the finals against DANESI NETTUNO 0-1.

Best Batter: Eddy Garabito. The former Major Leaguer batted a league-best .382 (OBP .462/SLG .587) with 21 extra base hits, 43 runs scored and 32 RBI in 42 games in his first year in Italy. He led the league also with 64 hits and 98 total bases.
Best OPS: Eddy Garabito 1.049
Most Home Runs: Richard Austin 7
Most RBI: Juan Angrisano 36

Most Stolen Bases: Eddy Garabito 14

Best Pitcher: Jesus Matos. He had a 9-4 record with an ERA of 2.26 in 14 starts. He struck out 118 batters in 95 2/3 innings, walking 20.
Best ERA: Victor Moreno 1.33 (minimum 15 IP)
Most Strikeouts: Jesus Matos 118 (led IBL)
Most Walks: Alessandro Ularetti 32
Most Innings Pitched: Jesus Matos 95.2
