Heavy rain fell once more on the Under-12 Baseball World Cup, postponing games for Germany and South Africa. The young Czech Republic baseball team did manage to complete its game, suffering a loss to Cuba.
The first two games of the day, Germany vs. Panamá and South Africa vs. Australia, were lost to rain. Later in the day, Czech Baseball’s Under-12 team faced Cuba, which has dominated all but the U12 World Cup’s top teams. The Antillean nation got off to a 2-0 start in the first, putting the game away with four runs in the fourth en route to an 8-0 victory. The Czech baseballers managed only two hits in the loss.
In Super Round play, Japan came back from a 6-1 deficit entering its half of the third, posting six runs that frame, before icing the win with a three-run fifth. The final score was 10-6. South Korea took a 9-1 decision from Mexico, while at the same time, the U.S.A. and hosts Taiwan were duelling. The Republic of China steadily built a 5-1 lead through four, but the Americans tied things up with a four-run fifth before a single from Christopher Chikodoff walked things off with a game-winning single run in the sixth. The victory for the U.S. removed one team from the four-way tie for first place, with Japan and South Korea retaining their positions.
