2011 Season: Already one of the best defensive players in the game, the 21-year-old shortstop Mariekson Gregorius split time between the Bakersfield Blaze and the Carolina Mudcats in his fourth season in professional baseball. He reached Double-A and batted a combined .289/.324/.429 with seven homeruns, four triples, 18 doubles, 48 runs scored and 44 RBI in 84 games this year. He won the IBAF Baseball World Cup with the Dutch National Team. After that the Reds topped his year by adding him to the 40-man roster, earning an invitation to Major League Spring Training.
