2011 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Danesi Nettuno

After a short break we’re continuing our review series for the 2011 season. After the Dutch Hoofdklasse next up is the Italian Baseball League.

Danesi Nettuno

2011 Record: 25-17
2011 Ranking: 2nd. Danesi Nettuno lost the Italian Baseball Series in seven games to T&A San Marino to finish in second place in the final standings. They prevailed in the Coppa Italia finals to return to the European Cup stage next year. Nettuno had to fight hard to get into the IBL finals, as they barely qualified for the semi-final round with a 25-17 record in the regular season, edging out Telemarket Rimini by a single game. In the semi-final round robin they won five of nine games to clinch the second spot in the Series.
Runs Scored: 221 (5th)
Runs Allowed: 163 (5th)

Best Batter: Juan Camilo. He batted .333/.423/.548 with 11 extra base hits, 19 runs and 20 RBI in 31 games (24 starts) this past season.
Best OPS: Juan Camilo .971
Most Homeruns: Juan Camilo, Giuseppe Mazzanti 4
Most RBI: Olmo Rosario Perez 33

Most Stolen Bases: Olmo Rosario Perez 16

Best Pitcher: Kris Wilson. The former Major Leaguer went 6-3 with an ERA of 1.68 in 13 starts in his second season in Italy. He struck out 76 batters in 91 1/3 innings, walking just 13. He pitched a no-hitter in his second start of the season against the North East Knights.
Best ERA Starting Pitcher: Kris Wilson 1.68
Best ERA Reliever: Remigio Leal 1.05
Most Strikeouts: Kris Wilson 76
Most Walks: Jose Escalona 27
Most Innings Pitched: Kris Wilson 91.1
