2011 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Unipol Bologna

After a short break we’re continuing our review series for the 2011 season. After the Dutch Hoofdklasse next up is the Italian Baseball League.

Unipol Bologna

2011 Record: 29-13
2011 Ranking: 3rd. After two trips to the Italian Baseball Series, Unipol Bologna had to settle for a semi-final appearance in 2011. Finishing the regular season in second place behind T&A San Marino, Fortitudo only won four of nine games in the semi-final round robin to miss out on the finals.
Runs Scored: 240 (3rd)
Runs Allowed: 123 (1st)

Best Batter: Edgar Clemente. The nephew of legendary Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente batted .372/.434/.587 in his first year in Italian Baseball. He collected five homeruns, a triple, nine doubles, 24 runs and 34 RBI in 31 games.

Best Pitcher: Victor Moreno. The reliever went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.41 and four saves in 14 games. He struck out 42 batters in 32 innings, while walking just eight and issuing only 17 hits. Opponents batted .155 against him.
Best ERA Starter: Jesus Matos 1.88
Best ERA Reliever: Yulman Ribeiro 0.98
Most Strikeouts: Jesus Matos 62
Most Walks: Cody Cillo 33
Most Innings Pitched: Jesus Matos 86.1
