2009 in Review – Austrian Baseball League – MOSQUITO Athletics Attnang-Puchheim

Even though we already started the year 2010, we will continue to look back at the 2009 season in Europe’s elite leagues. After the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic and Sweden, we will continue with the Austrian Baseball League.

MOSQUITO Athletics Attnang-Puchheim

2009 Record: 20-8
2009 Ranking: 2nd place after regular season in Austrian Baseball League. In the semi-finals 2008 champion Athletics lost in five games against the Schwaz Tigers. They later won the consolation series and finished in third place in the final standings. Attnang-Puchheim hosted a European Cup Qualifier, where the A’s finished in second place behind the Bern Cardinals.

Best Batter: Arian Quirantes. The Cuban slugger batted .386 (OBP .488/SLG .653) with six homeruns, 35 runs scored and 37 RBI in 27 games.

Best Pitcher: Jason Ermers. He had a perfect 6-0 record with an ERA of 1.25 in ten games. He struck out 71 batters in 57 2/3 innings, walking just nine. He also allowed just 37 hits.

Most Strikeouts: Walter Strasser 92
Most Walks: Walter Strasser 31
Most Innings Pitched: Thomas Schrittwieser 74.1
