2009 in Review – Austrian Baseball League – Schwechat Blue Bats



Even though we already started the year 2010, we will continue to look back at the 2009 season in Europe’s elite leagues. After the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic and Sweden, we will continue with the Austrian Baseball League.

Schwechat Blue Bats

2009 Record: 14-14
2009 Ranking: 5th place in Austrian Baseball League after regular season. The Blue Bats were tied for fourth in the standings, but missed out on the playoffs due the tiebreaker.
Runs Scored: 188
Runs Allowed: 236

Best Batter: Victor Torres. The shortstop batted .446 (OBP .495/SLG .815) with six homeruns, one triple, 14 doubles, 24 runs scored and 44 RBI in 23 games.

Most Home Runs: Victor Torres 6
Most RBI: Victor Torres 44
Most Runs Scored: Daniel Hayes, Lukas Schütz 27
Most Stolen Bases: Eduardo Severino 14

Best Pitcher: Daniel Hayes. He had a 3-2 record with an ERA of 1.85 in eight games. He struck out 29 batters in 34 innings, walking twelve.

Most Strikeouts: Richard Riesenberger 73
Most Walks: Benedict Christof
