2010 in Review – Belgian First Division – Hoboken Pioneers

We’re continuing our review series about the 2010 season in European Baseball with Belgium. Previously we looked at Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France and the Czech Republic.

Hoboken Pioneers

2010 Record: 20-2
2010 Ranking: 1st place in Belgian First Division after regular season. The Hoboken Pioneers also cruised through the top-four round robin with nine wins in twelve games, before sweeping the Belgian Series against the K. Deurne Spartans for their second national title in two years. During the European Cup in Rotterdam they finished in fifth place with a 2-3 record, but stunned host and heavy favorite DOOR Neptunus with a 1-0 shutout in the process.

Best Batter: Steven De Lannoy. He batted .506 (OBP .620/SLG .679) with two triples, ten doubles, 41 runs and 21 RBI during the regular season.

Best Pitcher: Terence Antonacci. He had a perfect 8-0 record with an ERA of 0.92 in nine appearances (eight starts) for the Pioneers in 2010. He struck out 62 batters in 59 innings, walking just five.
