2010 in Review – Belgian First Division – Merchtem Cats

We’re continuing our review series about the 2010 season in European Baseball with Belgium. Previously we looked at Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France and the Czech Republic.

Merchtem Cats

2010 Record: 3-21
2010 Ranking: 7th place in Belgian First Division after regular season. In the round robin for the bottom three teams, the Merchtem Cats picked up just two wins in eight games and had to play a relegation/promotion series against the Gent Knights. But they prevailed and secured their spot in the 2011 campaign.
Runs Scored: 83 (7th)
Runs Allowed: 259 (7th)

Best Batter: Ethan Guevin. He batted .354 (OBP .413/SLG .392) with three doubles, 20 runs and three RBI in his first season in Belgium.
Best OPS: Ethan Guevin .805
Most RBI: Geert Cleymans 15
Most Runs Scored: Ethan Guevin 20
Most Stolen Bases: Kristof van Droogenbroeck 8

Best Pitcher: Ethan Guevin. He had a 2-5 record with an ERA of 3.21 in ten appearances for the Cats in 2010. He struck out 42 in 61 2/3 innings, while walking 18.
