2009 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg

A few weeks ago, we started our review series. After the Dutch Hoofdklasse, the Italian Baseball League and the Spanish Division de Honor, we now direct our attention to the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg

2009 Record: 21-3
2009 Ranking: 1st place in southern division of Baseball-Bundesliga. In the semi-finals they were eliminated by the Mannheim Tornados in five games, finishing in fourth place in the final standings. In the European Cup Regensburg won two out of five games at the tournament in Nettuno, Italy and finished in fourth place.

Best Batter: Ludwig Glaser. The former minor leaguer of the Los Angeles Angels batted .378 (OBP .458/SLG .511) with one homerun, a triple, seven doubles, 17 runs scored and 27 RBI in 23 games.
Best OPS: Matt Vance .995
Most Home Runs: Chris Howard, Daniel Husband 3
Most RBI: Ludwig Glaser 27 (3rd in league)
Most Runs Scored: Matt Vance 27 (3rd in league)

Best Pitcher: Eddie Aucoin. The American, who joins the Dutch club Konica Minolta Pioniers in 2010, had a 7-1 record with a league-leading ERA of 0.99 in ten starts, striking out 70 batters in 63 1/3 innings, while walking seven. He struck out nine in a nine-inning no-hitter against the Saarlouis Hornets on May 23, missing the perfect game by two hit batters.
