2011 Season: 2011 was the first season in the United States for Lars Huijer after signing in May. The brother of former Boston Red Sox farmhand Swen Huijer was the youngest player ever to be invited to the European Academy in Tirrenia at the age of 14. This season he played for the Seattle Mariners affiliate in the Arizona Summer League, getting his feet wet in pro baseball. He made five appearances on the mound – three starts – and went 0-1 with an ERA of 5.40. He allowed 19 hits, nine runs and two walks in 15 innings, striking out nine.
