After Cariparma Parma had erased a 0-2 deficit in the Italian Series in the first two games at the Gianni Falchi Stadium, UGF Bologna regained the lead in the best-of-seven series with a 5-1 win on Saturday evening in front of 2,400 in attendance. Game six and possible seven will be back in Parma, scheduled for Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11.
The Fortitudo victory on Saturday was a product of Cody Cillo’s strong performance on the mound. The Italian national team hurler allowed just one run on four hits and three walks through 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six and threw 73 of his 120 pitches for strikes.
But Cillo had some problems to find his rhythm, as Cariparma took a fast 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a Davide Dallospedale run on a groundout by Juan Camilo. Bologna came back in the third, tying the contest when Livinston Santaniello scored on a wild pitch. One frame later they took the lead on a leadoff homerun by Juan Angrisano. They didn’t stop scoring adding a run on an error in the fifth and two more on RBI singles by Jairo Ramos and Santaniello in the seventh and eighth.
Mihai Burlea (L) took the loss for Parma, surrendering two hits, two runs and four bb in four innings. Justin Cicatello gave up the three other runs (2 ER) on six hits in four innings of relief. Fabio Milano (S) closed it out for UGF.
