Cariparma Parma made a statement in game three of the Italian Baseball Series on Thursday night, shutting out UGF Bologna 6-0 to cut the deficit in the best-of-seven series to 1-2 in front of 2,500 people at the Gianni Falchi stadium in Bologna. Three runs in the second and three in the eighth, aided by a pair of errors, lifted Parma to the win.
The team of manager Gilberto Gerali had the better start, taking a fast 3-0 lead in the second, when Fortitudo’s first baseman Daniele Malengo muffed a throw by shortstop Juan Carlos Infante after a two-out groundball by Stefano De Simoni allowing Riccardo Bertagnon to score. Davide Dallospedale followed with a two-run single.
Both pitching staffs exchanged zeros afterwards until Parma struck again in the eighth. Again an error by Malengo, this time throwing trying to complete a double play, led to the first run by Juan Camilo. Bertagnon and Alex Sambucci tagged on RBI singles to blow things open.
Parma wouldn’t have needed that much runs anyway as Roberto Corradini was dealing on Thursday. He went the distance with 117 pitches, allowing just six hits and a walk, while striking out four. Fabio Betto took the loss giving up eight hits, four runs (1 ER) and two base on balls in 7 1/3 frames. Alessandro Ularetti closed it out.
Game four is scheduled for Friday at 9pm in Bologna, as Jesus Matos (BOL) tries to get Bologna back on track in the foreign starter duel against Gustavo Martinez (PAR).
