Defending Italian Baseball League champion SAN MARINO completed the sweep against PARMA on Sunday evening with a 4-1 victory and finished the semi-final round with a 6-3 record in first place, reaching the Italian Baseball Series, which will start on August 14. With the result from Sunday’s game, FORTITUDO BOLOGNA also advanced due to winning two out of three games against TELEMARKET RIMINI this weekend. Both teams were tied with 5-4 records after the playoff round. The Italian Series will be played in a best-of-seven format.
T&A took a fast 2-0 lead in the second on a throwing error by the pitcher and a RBI single by Riccardo Suardi. CARIPARMA cut the deficit in a half with a RBI double by Leonardo Zileri in the fifth. But a solo homerun by Ardley Jansen and a RBI double by Suardi in the sixth added two insurance runs for SAN MARINO, sealing the 4-1 win. Tiago Da Silva struck out nine batters in a complete game effort, allowing just one run on seven hits. He threw 93 of his 131 pitches for strikes. Marco Grifantini took the loss after six innings, six hits, four runs (3 ER) and two bb. He struck out eight.
