IBL Playoffs: Bologna gets closer to Italian Baseball Series

In the continuation of the game from Wednesday due the protest, things even got uglier for PARMA, than the original final result of 14-2 had indicated. The match was resumed on Friday in the top of the fifth with SAN MARINO leading 8-2. After CARIPARMA cut the deficit to 7-9 in the bottom of the seventh, the reigning champion put twelve more runs on the board over the last two frames en route to a 21-7 victory. Seth La Fera (3-7, 4 RBI), Max De Biase (4 Runs) and Carlos Duran hit homeruns for T&A. Ardley Jansen went five-for-six with three runs scored and three RBI. David Sheldon scored thrice and drove in four. Orlando Munoz homered for the host. William Lucena got the win, Roberto Corradini the loss. Games two and three of the series will be played on Saturday, respective Sunday evening at 9pm CET.

BOLOGNA made a big step towards reaching the Italian Series, defeating RIMINI 5-3 on Friday, thanks to scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Juan Angrisano singled to center field with Claudio Liverziani on second and Richard Austin on first. Liverziani scored easily on the hit, but Austin also came around due to a fielding error by center fielder Filippo Crociati. The PIRATES had taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a bases clearing double by Leo Serafin de Camargo. But FORTITUDO came right back, erasing the deficit in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by Angrisano, a sac fly by Joseph Mazzuca and a wild pitch. Jesus Matos (BOL) allowed five hits, three runs and a walk in seven innings. He struck out eight. Rafael Garcia (RIM) issued three hits, three runs and a walk in 3 2/3 innings. Victor Moreno picked up the win, Gustavo Martinez the loss.
