Posted on October 29, 2007 by philipp

The Dutch Major League team Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam announced some changes for the next season, according to honkbalsite.com. They welcome five new players in addition to a new skipper and say farewell to three members of the squad and their old head coach.

Pitcher Rob CORDEMANS, first baseman Percy ISENIA and outfielder Harvey MONTE are leaving ADO Den Haag and sign contracts in Rotterdam. First baseman Gino HENSON and third baseman Roderick SIMON enter the ship after playing for HCAW and the Amsterdam Pirates in 2007. Belgian coach Steve JANSSEN succeeds Adonis KEMP, who left the club to be an assistant coach for DOOR Neptunus.

CORDEMANS started eight games for ADO last season, posting a 1-3 record with an ERA of 3.88. He struck out 56 in 48.2 innings pitched. ISENIA hit .282 with two homeruns, 14 doubles, ten runs scored and 19 RBI. MONTE posted a batting average of .357 with three homeruns, nine doubles, 24 runs scored and 24 RBI. SIMON hit .245 with four doubles, 16 runs scored and eleven runs batted in. HENSON hit .274 with three doubles, two triples, eight runs and 15 RBI.

Three players are leaving the team. Second baseman Dwayne KEMP (.333, 25 Runs, 21 RBI) and third baseman Rien VERNOOIJ signed pro-contracts for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets organizations. Backup outfielder Calvin MARTINUS (.143) is going to the Tridents.

Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam is the third Dutch Major League team after DOOR Neptunus and the Almere’90 Magpies, announcing plans for next season.
