DOOR Neptunus announced last weekend several player transactions. They acquired pitcher Berry VAN DRIEL from Den Haag ADO. The 22-year-old reliever pitched in 19 games this year. He posted a 3-1 record with five saves and an ERA of 3.71. He also made his national team debut this summer. It is their second major acquisition in the off-season. They obtained former major leaguer Eugene KINGSALE two weeks ago.
But they will also miss some players in 2008. Pitcher Martijn NIJHOFF in addition to outfielders Jurriaan KORFF and Brian LARMONIE are going to PSV Eindhoven. NIJHOFF pitched only in six games (1-0, ERA 3.97) for DOOR this season and will mainly work as a coach for Eindhoven. KORFF hit .301 with eleven runs scored and 15 RBI, mostly playing in left and right field. LARMONIE did not play for Neptunus the last two seasons. In 2005 he hit .368 with 14 runs and 17 RBI.
DOOR also made public, that pitcher Jan NATEROP will retire. He recently enjoyed his 30th birthday and is going to concentrate at his studies to become physiotherapist. The lefthander pitched in 16 games this season and did not allow an earned run in 17 2/3 innings. In his career he appeared in 161 games in the Dutch Major League.
