2009 in Review – Belgian First Division – Hoboken Pioneers

Even though we already started the year 2010, we will continue to look back at the 2009 season in Europe’s elite leagues. After the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic , Sweden, Austria and France we will continue with the Belgian First Division.

Hoboken Pioneers

2009 Record: 19-8
2009 Ranking: Tied for first place in Belgian First Division after regular season. During the playoffs the Pioneers won ten of the twelve games to advance into the Belgian Series easily. They beat the Port of Antwerp Greys in the championship series in three games to win their first national title since 1970. Hoboken also hosted a European Cup Qualifier last summer, where they finished in second place behind the German club Mannheim Tornados.

Best Batter: Steven De Lannoy. He led the league with a .414 batting average (OBP .508/SLG .573) in 191 plate appearances. He collected two homeruns, three triples, 13 doubles, 57 runs and 24 RBI.

Best Pitcher: Terence Antonacci. He had a 7-3 record with an ERA of 1.29. He struck out 89 batters in 98 innings, walking 16 and allowing just 66 hits.
