NETTUNO cut the deficit in the best-of-seven Italian Series to 2-3, winning a wild game 10-8 in SAN MARINO. A bases loaded walk by Giuseppe Mazzanti and a sac fly by Ramon Tavarez in the top of the eighth decided the outcome. T&A had no answer and the first opportunity to clinch the championship was gone.
Before that, the match went back and forth, with both teams taken leads. It cumulated in the seventh, when DANESI scored five runs on four hits for an 8-4 advantage, highlighted by a two-run single by Igor Schiavetti. But SAN MARINO countered in the bottom of the frame, tying the game through a two-run double by Max DiBiase and a two-run homerun by Dean Rovinelli.
But the T&A pitchers stopped throwing strikes in the top of the eighth, walking the winning run in. The offense went down in order in each of the last two frames.
Luis Ugueto went three-for-four with a homerun, four runs scored and two RBI for NETTUNO. Mazzanti finished with three RBIs. James Buccheri had two RBI for SAN MARINO, DiBiase three.
Tiago Da Silva (SMA) allowed five hits, four runs and two walks in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out nine. Giovanni Carrara (NET) gave up five hits, four runs (1 ER) and three base on balls in six innings. Victor Arias picked up the win for 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief. Luca Martignoni took the loss.
