NETTUNO needed a bases loaded walk in the tenth by Igor Schiavetti to defeat SAN MARINO 4-3 and to tie the Italian Series, after losing game one on Friday. The guest again had the better start into the match, but this time the favorite came back.
After exchanging zeros in the first five innings, T&A took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth through Max Di Biase’s two-run homerun over the left field fence. DANESI answered with a RBI single by Juan Camilo in the bottom of the frame, but SAN MARINO regained the two-run advantage in the top of the eighth with a RBI single by Seth La Fera. However Carlos Duran brought NETTUNO back. He cut the deficit to a run with a RBI triple minutes later and tied the game, when he scored on a wild pitch by Pedro Orta.
The contest went to extra innings and after a 1-2-3 top of the tenth, DANESI decided the outcome. Juan Camilo led off with a walk. Giuseppe Mazzanti was safe on a sac bunt, when Orta threw the batted ball away. SAN MARINO decided to walk Ramon Tavarez intentionally to load the bases with one out. Schiavetti stepped to the plate and Matthew Marrone, who replaced Orta on the mound, didn’t find the strike zone. Four straight balls brought Camilo in from third and to end the game in walk off style.
Giovanni Carrara (NET) allowed seven hits, three runs and two walks in eight innings. Tiago Da Silva (SMA) gave up eight hits, three runs and a base on balls in seven-plus innings. Marco Costantini picked up the win with two perfect innings of relief. Orta took the loss.
