After a 4-3 victory on Tuesday, SAN MARINO needs just one more win to take home the Italian Baseball League title. They now lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 against NETTUNO.
The favorite after the semi-final round got off to a good start, taking a 1-0 lead in the second through a RBI single by Paolino Ambrosino. But T&A evened the score a frame later on Riccardo Suardi’s solo shot over the fence in center field.
They decided the outcome in the fourth. Martin Vazquez reached on a dropped fly ball by right fielder Juan Camilo, David Sheldon walked and with two outs, Dean Rovinelli (photo) put them 4-1 in front with a three-run homerun to center field.
NETTUNO rallied in the ninth and cut the deficit to a run on a two-run single by Carlos Duran. But it was not enough, as Luis Ugueto grounded into a fielder’s choice to end the game.
Juan Figueroa stifled the DANESI batters over seven innings, allowing just five hits, a run and three walks. Brian Looney picked up the save, despite nearly blowing the lead. Frailyn Florian took the loss, giving up six hits, four runs (1 ER) and a base on balls in eight innings.
The series resumes tonight at 21:00 CET.
