2010 in Review – Spanish Division de Honor – Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz

We are right in the middle for our annual season reviews of European Baseball. We already looked to Italy, the Netherlands and Germany. Now the Spanish Division de Honor is at the plate.

Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz

2010 Record: 28-8
2010 Ranking: 3rd place in Division de Honor. After winning five consecutive national championships in Spain the Tenerife Marlins Puerto Cruz were dethroned this year by CB Sant Boi. As consolation prize they won the Copa del Rey tournament and qualified again for the European Cup. In this season’s European tournaments the Marlins stunned host DOOR Neptunus in Rotterdam and got a second win over the Hoboken Pioneers before settling for 3rd place, missing out on the final four in Barcelona.

Runs Allowed: 93 (3rd)

Best Batter: Richard Montiel. He batted .411 (OBP .447/SLG .787) with twelve homeruns, a triple, 15 doubles, 35 runs and 48 RBI in 36 games this year.

Best Pitcher: Leslie Nacar. He had a 10-5 record with an ERA of 2.06 in 17 appearances in 2010, 16 of them starts. He struck out 152 batters in 113 1/3 innings, while walking 28.
Best ERA Starter: Ivan Granados 1.93
Best ERA Reliever: Cristian Remedios 0.43
Most Strikeouts: Leslie Nacar 152 (2nd in league)
Most Walks: Ivan Granados 32
Most Innings Pitched: Leslie Nacar 113.1
