Telemarket Rimini has signed starting pitcher Gustavo MARTINEZ for the upcoming season. They also announced the acquisitions of Luca LOMONTE and Michele QUATTRINI. They are now satisfied with their transactions and have the roster set for the year.
MARTINEZ is 27 years old and from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is a former minor league in the Seattle Mariners organization. Between 2000 and 2004 he appeared in 137 games (66 starts) as high as triple A. He posted a 32.31 record with an ERA of 3.54 and 442 strikeouts in 504 innings pitched. He also pitched in the Dominican Summer League, receiving “Most Outstanding Pitcher” honors in 1999. After his release after the 2004 season he went to Taiwan to play for the New Bears in 2005 and 2006.
He returned to the United States last season, pitching for Lancaster (8-8, ERA 4.30, 125.2 IP, 88 SO) in the Atlantic League. He will be united with fellow Dominicans Manny ALEXANDER, Juan MELO and Amaury GARCIA in Rimini. He will join Matt BEECH and Buddy BENGEL in the rotation.
LOMONTE is born in 1989, was a member of the Italian Baseball Academy in Tirrenia and played for Livorno (Serie A2). H had an ERA of 10.54 in 35 innings pitched, striking out 19, while walking 49. QUATTRINI is two years older and pitched for Picena in the Serie A2 last season. He had a 6-7 record in 17 games with an ERA of 3.39. He struck out 78 (59 walks) in 90.1 innings pitched.
Telemarket Rimini opens the season against Cariparma on April 18.
