Germany’s Ben’s Bundesliga
After a full slate of mid-week games, the German Bundesliga South continues on short rest this weekend, with Week 8 action signalling the start of the second round of play. The teams are now familiar with one another. Some hot starts have cooled; other teams are just now warming up.
No team is hotter than the Mannheim Tornados (7-6), who are are currently enjoying a five-game winning streak. The club made both Regensburg (12-2) and Heidenheim (13-1) sweat in their first encounters this season, and the Tornados will get another shot at the league-leading Heideköpfe on Saturday.
The Mainz Athletics – Stuttgart Reds match-up is the weekend’s second intriguing series. The Reds have cooled off after a 6-0 start and are now 7-7, level with the Athletics. The two clubs split their first series and both will want to be able to take advantage should Mannheim’s winning streak end against Heidenheim.
In the Bundesliga North, the Dortmund Wanderers (0-0) and their contingent of Spanish talent will get the season started against the Solingen Alligators (2-0).

Czech Extraliga
Week 6 of the Extraliga gets started on Friday night with two match-ups: Olympia Blansko (1-10) hosts Blesk Jablonec (2-12), while Draci Brno (7-5) plays host to the Trebic Nuclears (9-6). With the 10-team Extraliga contracting to eight teams in 2022, Olympia and Jablonec will both want to pick up some wins in order to escape the league cellar, while Draci and Trebic will want to cement their position in the TOP6. Both games are scheduled to start at 19:00 (CEST).
Saturday sees the league-leading Arrows Ostrava (11-3) begin their series against Hrosi Brno (9-6); Eagles Prague (10-5) take on city rival Tempo (6-9); and Sokol Hluboka (10-4) challenges Kotlarka Prague (5-10). Four games are scheduled to start Saturday at 13:00 (CEST), with another four starting at 16:00 (CEST).
Game Three in the league’s five series starts Sunday at 13:00 (CEST).
