Dennis Stechmann did his job in game one against Dohren

Dohren Wild Farmers – Dortmund Wanderers 6-10, 4-3

The Wild Farmers and the Wanderers split their doubleheader to finish the regular season on Saturday, which also ended the playoff hopes for both teams. In game one Dortmund had the better start, taking a 6-0 lead through three innings. They added two more runs in the fifth before Dohren tried to come back in the second half of the game. However in the end the Wanderers prevailed 10-6. A strong pitcher Vince DeCoito and homeruns by Johannes Petzold and Tyson Jaquez laid the groundwork for a 4-3 win by the Wild Farmers in game two. This time Dortmund looked to erase the gap in the end, but had to settle for the loss.

Cologne Cardinals – HSV Stealers 4-6, 0-4

The Stealers had the best game day of all candidates for the fourth playoff spot in the north. They celebrated a sweep on the road against the Cardinals. In game one the HSV overcame a 0-4 deficit after three innings to win 6-4 thanks to two runs in the ninth. In part two of the twin bill Justin Prinstein made his Bundesliga debut, went the distance and pitched Hamburg to a 4-0 shutout. With the two victories the Stealers can reach the quarter finals, when they are able to win one more game than Pulheim next weekend. Cologne on the other hand is in danger to get relegated after finishing the regular season with a 7-21 record.

Pulheim Gophers – Paderborn Untouchables 2-13, 9-5

The Gophers are the big winners of the weekend in the Baseball-Bundesliga. They stunned the Untouchables with a split and they are the only team of the eleven-win quartet to have their fate in their hands. However they have two tough games against the Solingen Alligators left on the schedule. On Sunday Paderborn took game one by a score of 13-2 thanks to two homeruns by Michael Franke and a strong pitching performance by Eugen Heilmann. Game two was completely different, as Pulheim took an early 9-0 lead against Daniel Meier en route to a 9-5 win.

Bonn Capitals – Solingen Alligators 7-11, 2-10

The Alligators secured the number-one seed in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga with a sweep in Bonn on Sunday. In game one Solingen put six runs on the board in the first two frames against Tim Henkenjohann and added five more against the bullpen between the sixth and the eighth to seal the win. The Capitals only were able to cut the deficit to four runs in the bottom of the eighth, losing 7-11 in the end. Christian Nsien (BON) and Robin Drache (SOL) hit homeruns. The second game wasn’t much different, as the Alligators scored in each frame between the second and seventh in a 10-2 win.
