Recaps South: Eric Faint throws No-Hitter for Buchbinder Legionaere

Recaps South: Eric Faint throws No Hitter for Buchbinder Legionaere

Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Haar Disciples 4-7, 7-0

The Disciples picked up a split in Regensburg and practically have secured the fourth spot in the southern division. Haar got the decisive win in a 7-4 stunner on Friday night, where they scored seven in the eighth to seal the victory. The Buchbinder Legionaere had taken a 1-0 lead on a solo homerun by Petr Cech in sixth, but two errors by shortstop Matt Vance, five Disciples hits and two walks blew it two frames later. The home team tried to come back, but a rain delay after the eighth took away all momentum they got after a three-run rally moments earlier. One day later the Buchbinder Legionaere got some payback. In his first start of the season Eric Faint allowed just a pair of walks through nine scoreless no-hit innings to lead Regensburg to a 7-0 shutout. He struck out seven. Matt Vance scored twice. Calvin Brutus took the loss.

Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Mannheim Tornados 3-2, 14-4 (7)

The Heidekoepfe concluded the regular season with two wins over the Tornados on Saturday. They had to reschedule the planned Friday night game due to a rainout and played a doubleheader one day later instead. In game one a solo homerun by Robert Gruber in the seventh broke a 2-2 tie to lead Heidenheim to a 3-2 win. Markus Winkler won the duel on the mound against Philipp Hoehlein. The second match wasn’t that close, as the Heidekoepfe scored in each of the seven runs in a 14-4 rout. Gruber went 3-for-4 with four RBI. Hagen Raetz and Matt Pali crossed the plate three times each. Marvin Appiah hit a solo homerun for Mannheim. Dennis Bergman received the win, Dennis Kelly the loss.

Neuenburg Atomics – Gauting Indians 2-8, 2-6

The Indians won both games against the Atomics no Sunday, but still only have mathematical chances of making the playoffs, needing wins against the Athletics and the Disciples next weekend, while the second needs of a very lopsided nature. In game on RBI singles by Johannes Jung and Jakob von Mosch broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth to get Gauting the lead. Four more runs in the ninth sealed the win. John Dobkowski went the distance, allowing two runs (1 ER) on nine hits and a walk, while striking out ten. Andrea Girasole got the start for Neuenburg, giving up seven hits, two runs (1 ER) and a bb in six-plus innings. Keenan Pipes took the loss.

In the second game the Indians celebrated a 6-2 win to complete the sweep. After both teams scored once in the opening frame, Johannes Jung and Lasse Bischoff put the Indians ahead in the fourth and fifth on a fielder’s choice and a RBI single by Matti Emery. After the Atomics cut the deficit to a run in the sixth, Gauting added three insurance runs in the ninth for the win. Kyle Kearcher (6 H, BB, 3 K) also pitched a complete game to get the victory. Janos Daroczi had to replace Tony Ronco in the third and took his tenth loss of the season.
