2010 Season: The 25-year-old Alessandro Maestri started the 2010 season back with the Tennessee Smokies in the Southern League (Double A), but couldn’t repeat his numbers from a year earlier. He had an ERA of 6.25 in 28 relief appearances, striking out 32 batters in 40 1/3 innings, while walking 21. He was demoted to the Daytona Cubs in the Florida State League at the end of June and finished the year there. He was better at Single-A, going 3-2 with an ERA of 3.79 in 22 games. He struck out 38 batters in 35 2/3 innings (15 walks). Overall he had an ERA of 5.09 in 76 innings. In October he joined the Italian National Team during the Intercontinental Cup as the closer at helped them to a third-place finish. Unless something changes during the next couple of months he will return to the Chicago Cubs organization for a sixth season.
