Sparks Haarlem has won the 2010 title in the Dutch Hoofdklasse Softball. They celebrated an 8-2 victory over defending champion Tex Town Tigers in the decisive game five of the Holland Series on Sunday afternoon. After four thrilling matches before, this one was over at the end of the opening frame.
The first six batters of Sparks reached base and seven runners total scored in the first to decide things quickly. Tex Town was able to avoid the shutout afterwards, but two runs were too little to initiate a comeback. Chantal Versluis led the Haarlem offense with three hits, a run and a RBI. Eight different players crossed the plate. Nadine Marinus went 2-for-3 with a RBI for the Tigers.
Dagmar Bloeming (W 2-2) got the win, allowing five hits and two runs in seven solid innings. She struck out four and finished the Holland Series with an ERA of 0.94 in four appearances. Ginger de Weert (L 0-1) got the starting nod for the guests from Enschede, but only stood in the circle for four batters, issuing four runs on four hits to take the loss. Lindsey Meadows wasn’t able to stop the bleeding in relief, allowing four more runs (1 ER) on seven hits and six bb in six innings. She struck out seven.
