The final round at the European Championship in Brno ended on Saturday with three games. Only the Gold Medal Game on Saturday is left. The Netherlands and Italy will meet in the grand finale with the Dutch hoping to end Italy’s reign at the top of European Baseball.
Final Round:
Spain has won the bronze medal at the 2014 European Championship. The team of manager Mauro Mazzotti defeated France 10-5 on Saturday morning to clinch third place in the final standings, finishing the final round with a 3-2 record. France dropped to 1-4. Germany closed out the final round at the European Championship 2014 in Brno with a 5-2 win over the Czech Republic. Since they didn’t win by six runs difference, Germany had to settle for fifth, while the Czech Republic claims fourth and France ends up in sixth. Read the full recap.
The Netherlands won for the first time against Italy at a European Championship since 2005. Mike Bolsenbroek of the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg pitched a 3-hit complete game shutout to pace the Dutch national team to a 5-0 win on Saturday evening, concluding the final round at the 2014 Euros in Brno. On Sunday at 3pm CET the Gold Medal Game at the European Championship 2014 takes place at MBS Stadium in Brno. The game will be televised live in the Netherlands (NOS) and in Italy (Fox Sports 2). Rob Cordemans or Kevin Heijstek are expected to pitch for the Netherlands, while Michael Colla is the probable starting pitcher for Italy. The two best teams of the tournament are facing each other. Italy has won the trophy in 2010 in Stuttgart and 2012 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands last were on top in Barcelona in 2007.
