Defending Italian champion T&A SAN MARINO crushed CARIPARMA 10-0 on Saturday evening to win their fifth game in the semi-final round robin. They need to complete the sweep in the three-game series on Sunday to advance to the Italian Baseball Series. Horacio Estrada picked up the win with seven brilliant innings of two-hit ball, striking out twelve, while walking none. Luis Ramirez closed out the two-hitter. Max De Biase went two-for-five with three runs scored and two RBI. Francesco Imperiali, David Sheldon and Riccardo Suardi also drove in two each. Ricardo Palma conceded three hits, three runs and four bb in five innings for the loss.

RIMINI avoided the sweep against BOLOGNA by winning the tenth inning 3-2 en route to a 4-3 victory at the Gianni Falchi stadium on Saturday. Both clubs now are 5-4 in the semi-final round and wait for the result of Sunday’s matchup between SAN MARINO and PARMA to know their fate. After Richard Austin (BOL) and Danny Gonzalez (RIM) had exchanged solo homeruns during the first nine innings, the game went into extras. The PIRATES got right into business in the tenth, putting three runs on the board thanks to a RBI single by Eddie Rios, a throwing error by catcher Matt Stocco and a RBI double by Giuseppe Spinelli. FORTITUDO tried to come back and cut the deficit to a run, when Luca Breveglieri scored on a wild pitch and Eddy Garabito on a single by Austin. But Juan Angrisano grounded into a fielder’s choice to short for the final out of the game. Chris Di Roma (RIM) went eight innings, allowing three hits, a run and two walks. Yulman Ribeiro (BOL) conceded four hits and a run in 7 1/3 innings, striking out nine. Michele Quattrini picked up the win, Fabio Milano took the loss.
