2011 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Telemarket Rimini

After a short break we’re continuing our review series for the 2011 season. After the Dutch Hoofdklasse next up is the Italian Baseball League.

2011 Record: 24-18
2011 Ranking: 5th place. Telemarket Rimini lost out on a playoff spot on the last weekend of the regular season, missing the semi-finals by a mere game. Winning six of the last eight games didn’t help, as they lost a crucial series to Danesi Nettuno, which ranked out in fourth place.
Runs Scored: 241 (2nd)
Runs Allowed: 153 (3rd)

Best Batter: Mario Chiarini. The captain of the Italian national team batted .360/.421/.596 with six homeruns, nine doubles, 29 runs and 33 RBI in 30 games for the Pirates this season.

Best Pitcher: Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez. The Cuban with German passport, who missed the Baseball World Cup with an injury, went 8-2 with an ERA of 1.46 in 12 starts in his second season in Italy. He struck out 49 batters in 68 innings, walking 22.
