2010 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Paderborn Untouchables

We are underway with our review series of the European Baseball season 2010. We already looked at the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Now at the plate: the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Paderborn Untouchables

2010 Record: 20-8
2010 Ranking: 2nd place in northern division of Baseball-Bundesliga. During the playoffs the Paderborn Untouchables overcame a 0-2 deficit to win 3-2 against the Mannheim Tornados in the quarterfinals. They lost in four games to the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in the semi-finals. Due to their withdrawal from the consolation series against the Solingen Alligators the U’s had to settle for fourth place in the final standings.
Runs Scored: 183 (2nd)
Runs Allowed: 90 (2nd)

Best Batter: Michael Franke. The former minor leaguer only appeared in 16 of the 28 games during the regular season, but still batted a team-best .396 (OBP .459/SLG .698) with four homeruns, twelve runs scored and 18 RBI.
Best OPS: Michael Franke 1.157
Most Home Runs: Daniel Meier 6 (tied for 3rd in league)
Most RBI: Bjoern Schonlau, Daniel Meier 24
Most Runs Scored: Jendrick Speer 32 (2nd)
Most Stolen Bases: Julius Uelschen 9

Best Pitcher: Daniel Meier. The 25-year-old starting pitcher/third baseman went 7-5 with an ERA of 1.58 in 14 starts in his first year in Germany. He struck out 94 batters in 102 1/3 innings, while walking 62. Opponents batted just .168 against him.
Best ERA Starter: Daniel Meier 1.58 (2nd in league)
Best ERA Reliever: Daniel Hinz 2.56 (minimum 15 IP)
Most Strikeouts: Daniel Meier 94
Most Walks: Daniel Meier 62 (2nd most in league)
Most Innings Pitched: Eugen Heilmann 104.1 (5th)
