2010 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Mainz Athletics

We are underway with our review series of the European Baseball season 2010. We already looked at the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Now at the plate: the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Mainz Athletics

2010 Record: 18-22 (including playdowns)
2010 Ranking: 6th place in southern division of Baseball-Bundesliga. The Mainz Athletics missed the playoffs in the Baseball-Bundesliga for the first time thanks to a seventh place in the regular season. During the playdowns they climbed a spot for sixth in the final standings.
Runs Scored: 140 (6th)
Runs Allowed: 188 (6th)

Best Batter: Mike Larson. The 27-year-old Canadian outfielder batted .311 (OBP .417/SLG .519) with four homeruns, twelve runs and 25 RBI in 28 games this season.
Best OPS: Mike Larson .936
Most Home Runs: Mike Larson 4 (tied for 5th in league)
Most RBI: Mike Larson 25
Most Runs Scored: Kevin Kotowski, Hendrik Schewe 18
Most Stolen Bases: Hendrik Schewe 15 (tied for 3rd)

Best Pitcher: Pat Haugen. The 23-year-old joined the A’s in the middle of June, beat leader Buchbinder Legionaere in his first start and settled for a 1-2 record with an ERA of 4.75 in five starts during the regular season. In the playdowns he was 5-1 with an ERA of 0.71 and 54 strikeouts (ten walks) in 38 innings.

Best ERA Reliever: Christian Decher 2.93
Most Strikeouts: Manuel Moeller 49
Most Walks: Manuel Moeller 54
