2009 in Review – Spanish Division de Honor – San Inazio Bilbao

During the “slow” winter months we’re going to take a look back at the 2009 season in the European Leagues. We’ve started with the Dutch Hoofdklasse and the Italian Baseball League. The Spanish Division de Honor is next up.

San Inazio Bilbao

2009 Record: 19-17
2009 Ranking: 4th Place in Division de Honor. They finished fourth in the Copa del Rey tournament, losing the semis against TENERIFE and the third-place game against the FC BARCELONA.

Runs Allowed: 155

Best Batter: Dirimo Chavez and Kelvin Marianucci. Chavez, who later played for Venezuela in the IBAF Baseball World Cup, batted .396 (OBP .467/SLG .514) with one homerun, 14 doubles, 36 runs scored and 21 RBI in 36 games. Marianucci batted .395 (OBP .459/SLG .519) with one homer, a triple, eleven doubles, 30 runs scored and 14 RBI. They were fifth and sixth in the race for the batting title. Chavez led the league with 57 hits; Marianucci was in third (51).

Best Pitcher: Fidel Mane Torres. He had a 8-5 record with an ERA of 3.10 in 17 games (15 starts) he struck out 86 batters in 107 1/3 innings, walking only 17.
Best ERA: Willy Javier Guedez 3.03
Most Strikeouts: Fidel Mane Torres 86
Most Walks: Andoni Ortiz 34
Most Innings Pitched: Alberto Magallon 113.1
