s_10-10-03_HDH-REG_Sp4_-_0123The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe have forced a game five in the German Baseball finals. They celebrated a 4-0 shutout in game four on Sunday against the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg to tie the best-of-five series 2-2.

Dusty Bergman stifled the Regensburg offense through nine innings to lead Heidenheim to the win. He allowed just five hits and a walk for a complete game shutout, striking out six. The Buchbinder Legionaere reached third base only twice, in the opening frame and in the seventh.

Bergman received the necessary run support in the fifth, when Chris Beck drove in Hagen Raetz with RBI fielder’s choice. Beck followed with steals of second and third en route to crossing the plate on a sac fly by Sam Whitehead. One frame later they doubled the lead on RBI singles by Robert Gruber and Beck.

Regensburg had chosen to bring Boris Bokaj as starting pitcher. But the Czech national teamer only was able to match Bergman in the first four innings. He issued four runs (3 ER) on six hits and a bb, while striking out three in five-plus innings.

The decisive fifth game will be played next Saturday at the Armin-Wolf-Arena in Regensburg.
