2010 German Baseball Finals, Game 3, October 2:

(1-2) Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 9-5

Defending champion Heidenheim Heidekoepfe has avoided the sweep in the German finals after defeating the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 9-5 in game three on Saturday. Game four will follow on Sunday afternoon, again in Heidenheim.

The Buchbinder Legionaere had the better start into the game, taking a fast 4-0 lead midway through the opening frame thanks to a sac fly by Petr Cech and hits by Chris Howard and Cedric Bassel. But the Heidekoepfe answered right away. Chris Beck greeted Philipp Hoffschild (L) with a solo homerun. Several more hits followed, including a two-run triple by Matt Pali to tie the game with no outs.

Mike Bolsenbroek replaced Hoffschild with no outs and two runners on in the first. After a strikeout Matt Vance botched a double play and two more runs scored to put Heidenheim in front. Vance got some payback in the second inning, when he reduced the deficit with a solo homerun. But the Heidekoepfe regained their two-run advantage in the bottom of the same period thanks to a Sam Whitehead run.

While comeback tries of the Buchbinder Legionaere led to nothing, the home tagged on two more runs on a sac fly by Whitehead in the sixth and another solo shot by Beck in the eighth to seal the 9-5 victory. Regensburg had one last chance in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs. However Ludwig Glaser flied out to right fielder Johannes Schaeffler to end the game.
