2011 in Review – Dutch Hoofdklasse – DOOR Neptunus

As we did in the last couple of years, we want to use the offseason to look back at the statistical performances by the teams in Europe’s top baseball leagues this past season. At the plate for the first part is the Dutch Hoofdklasse.

DOOR Neptunus

2011 Record: 31-11
2011 Ranking: 3rd. Following their record-breaking 2010 season, DOOR Neptunus wasn’t able to dominate the Dutch Hoofdklasse in the same way, but still ended up with a first-place finish in the regular season. However in the playoffs they won just four of the nine games and had to watch the Holland Series from the sidelines.
Runs Scored: 277 (1st)
Runs Allowed: 109 (1st)

Best Batter: Dwayne Kemp. The former minor leaguer batted .363/.432/.538 with two homeruns, five triples, 14 doubles, 47 runs and 28 RBI in 42 games. He also stole 22 bases.
Best OPS: Dwayne Kemp .970

Most RBI: Rien Vernooij 36

Best Pitcher: Craig Anderson. The successor of Dushan Ruzic on the pitching staff went 5-1 with one save and an ERA of 1.09 in 16 appearances (five starts). He struck out 34 in 58 innings, while walking 13.
Best ERA Starter: Diegomar Markwell 1.71
Best ERA Reliever: Craig Anderson 1.09
Most Strikeouts: Kevin Heijstek 57
Most Walks: Diegomar Markwell 26
Most Innings Pitched: Diegomar Markwell 79.0
