2010 in Review – Italian Baseball League – UGF Fortitudo Bologna

The season in European Baseball is over. It is time to look back. We will start our annual review series with the Italian Baseball League.

UGF Fortitudo Bologna

2010 Record: 25-17
2010 Ranking: 4th in Italian Baseball League after regular season. The champion of 2009 lost the last five games of the regular season, but lost just three of nine during the semi-final round to reach the Italian Baseball Series for a second straight year. They blew a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series and lost to Cariparma Parma in seven games. UGF Fortitudo Bologna later won the European Champions Cup in Barcelona and the Coppa Italia to clinch a European Cup ticket for 2011.

Stefano LanduzziBest Batter: Juan Carlos Infante. The member of the Italian National Team batted .327 (OBP .454/SLG .442) with nine extra base hits, 27 runs scored and 28 RBI in 42 games this season.

Most RBI: Jairo Ramos Gizzi 32 (3rd in IBL)

Best Pitcher: Victor Moreno. The closer for Jesus Matos had an ERA of 0.56 in 13 appearances, allowing just two earned runs in 32 1/3 innings. He struck out 52 and walked only six.
Best ERA Starter: Jesus Matos 1.44 (led IBL)
Best ERA Reliever: Victor Moreno 0.56
Most Strikeouts: Jesus Matos 77 (2nd in IBL)
Most Walks: Cody Cillo 32
