2009 in Review – Spanish Division de Honor – FC Barcelona

During the “slow” winter months we’re going to take a look back at the 2009 season in the European Leagues. We’ve started with the Dutch Hoofdklasse and the Italian Baseball League. The Spanish Division de Honor is next up.

FC Barcelona

2009 Record: 30-6
2009 Ranking: 3rd in Division de Honor. Despite having the superior record in comparison to CB SANT BOI, the FC BARCELONA was ranked third due to a federation ruling. They took third place in the Copa del Rey tournament. In the European Cup in Matino, Italy BARCA was tied for third place and missed out on the European Champions Cup Final Four in their own ballpark in Montjuic.

Runs Allowed: 77

Best Batter: Jesus Golindano. He batted .376 (OBP .491/SLG .494) with one homerun, seven doubles, 24 runs scored and 32 RBI in 25 games.

Most Runs Scored: Emmanuel Febles 39 (led Division de Honor)

Best Pitcher: Pedro Pablo Belmonte and Homer Baez. The two regular starting pitchers impressed as a two-headed monster. Belmonte went 15-1 with an ERA of 1.81 in 16 starts, striking out 54 batters in 124 innings, walking just twelve. Baez had a 13-3 record with an ERA of 1.82 in 17 starts, sending 128 batters back into the dugout with strikeouts in 128 1/3 innings, walking 42.
Best ERA: Jason Friedman 1.33 (minimum 20 IP)
Most Strikeouts: Homer Baez 128
Most Walks: Homer Baez 42
